Western Brewing
Definition
The most common brewing method outside East Asia: a lower leaf-to-water ratio (typically 2–3g per 250ml), steeped in a large mug or teapot for 3–5 minutes, usually yielding one or two infusions per serving.
Why it matters
Western brewing is how most people first encounter tea, and it works well for robust black teas and flavored blends. Understanding how it differs from gongfu helps you choose the right method for the right tea - not every tea benefits from multiple short steeps.
