Dancong

Terroir

Definition

A category of oolong tea from the Phoenix Mountains (Fenghuang) in Guangdong province, China. The name means 'single bush' - traditionally, each tea tree was harvested and processed individually to preserve its unique aromatic character. Dancong oolongs are famous for naturally mimicking floral, fruity, and honey aromas.

Why it matters

Dancong represents one of the most aromatic and diverse oolong styles. A single mountain can produce teas that smell like orchid, almond, ginger flower, or lychee - all without any added flavoring. Understanding dancong opens up an entire world of naturally fragrant teas that most Western drinkers haven't explored.
