West Lake
The West Lake area in Hangzhou produces the most prestigious Longjing - the original Dragon Well.
West Lake (Xihu) in Hangzhou is the geographically protected origin of authentic Xihu Longjing. Only tea grown on the limited acreage of designated West Lake villages can carry the Xihu Longjing name. Within this area, Shifeng (Lion Peak) is considered the highest quality, followed by Longjing village, Meijiawu, Yunqi, and Hupao. Beyond geography, the time of picking matters enormously: ming qian (before Qingming, around April 5) and yu qian (before Grain Rain, around April 20) are the two prized harvest windows.
